Saved from UFO-ville

While I was mulling over what to do about the leather jacket muslin, I got around to sewing up a third pair of boxer shorts.  I had cut them for Phin back in October as part of the MPB Boxers Sew Along.

I generally cut and then sew up projects one or two at a time. And if a pattern isn't working out, I usually call it a flop and move on. Unfinished sewing projects don't linger. But, for some reason, after cutting these out and sewing the other two, these just sat there... casting dirty looks at me... threatening to become my first ever UFO. (Here are the other two boxers I made at the time.)

Anyway, boxers are super quick to sew up and this was a welcome break from all the fitting and scrutinizing of the leather jacket. And I'm relieved that the Craft Lounge is once again UFO free. Less mental clutter.

So, tell me: do you have any UFO's lurking in your sewing room? How long do they tend to linger? Do you ever get around to finishing them or is it really just wadder-denial??

I don't generally *do* UFOs, either---I find them, hmm, clogging? mentally, but I have a couple right now (both requiring some fitting/reworking) that I just haven't got the oomph to deal with.

I think a quick project like this is perfect to intersperse with something intensive like your jacket, though. I ran across the boxer pattern my daughter was using for that sewalong the other day while tidying, and was thinking that I might bang out a couple more for her. I'm liking simple, quick projects these days...

Well, I do have this one costume UFO that has been around since October of '10... Emotional issues associated with it, I guess, so I don't want to finish it (because it isn't looking so hot) but I also don't want to get rid of it yet? I do actually want to make that costume piece, but I might need to get different materials and re-do a lot of it. That is my permanent UFO.

Now, because I am doing all of these skating costumes, I also have my button down shirt where I have adjusted the pattern, but haven't made muslin #2 yet. There isn't actually anything cut out, but since I have started this project and haven't officially finished it, I suppose it could technically be classified as a UFO, though I would go with "work in progress." Same story for my Patrones pants - pattern is traced, but haven't done anything else with it as of yet. It isn't so much that I have abandoned them, as that they are on hold while I do the skating stuff, and then get back to them at a later time.

Oh, and I made a skating practice dress which should have been a wadder but I love the fabric too much, so I need to re-do it/save it somehow, but that is going to take too much time I don't have at the moment so that is sort of in UFO territory as well at the moment. I think my goal is to have all of the UFOs/WIPs (except the costume) finished by the end of July. If it goes longer than that I think they fall into official UFO territory...

Hmmmm.... normally I don't have any UFOs, but maybe this is why I have not been as excited to sew lately - I don't like having a backlog of projects.

matter of fact, i've got a pair of UFO boxers for ruggy. they're lingering in NY, and have been doing so since december.

Hmm, I'd be willing to give a free pass on a project that is on the opposite coast or where the fabric hasn't actually been cut yet. What do others think?

Yup UFO's galore, apparently I am good at not finishing things if I am not loving it.. Hope to try to start with fabric that I love maybe that will help...

I'll buy the ticket and you can come to my place! I have a tonne of UFO's not just sewing, but knitting, embroidery, and even a quilt! I agree with Tanit-Isis it is mentally clogging - half the time I don't know where to start, but I finished something today!

I have a lot of UFO's, but they tend to be more of the non-sewing variety. When I venture into knitting, or embroidery, or quilting...that's when things don't get done.

I kinda do want to make some boxers now....

@ Sherry - But lately it seems like you're really plowing through them!

Oooh, I hadn't even thought about knitting UFO's!! I don't have any of those yet either!

I'm the same as you, one project at a time, no UFOs. I do have a few old ones, though, both bags. I guess I don't like making bags. One is a specialized computer bag for my mini netbook and I realized too late that I'd made the pockets too close to the size needed and would have to hand sew them in place rather than use the machine. The other one also involves hand sewing. Hmm.
