Frenzy: WIPs and Plans Out the Wazoo

I think I'm developing a case of creative overload where I'm oscilating between OCD and AD/HD. After tidying the Craft Lounge to accommodate my new fabric and deciding on some summer sewing goals, I've been so enthusiastic about all my projects that I am having a difficult time picking just one to work on. Crazy, right?

I've drafted the schematic for my Future Dress and prepped the fabric. Now I have to make full size pattern pieces with seam allowances.

Let's hope my math skills still work!
This really is a fascinating dress. So, simple but I hope the results will wow.

Next, I cut my new wax cloth for a caftan for MomMuse:

I'm using the fabric on the right and McCalls M6552.

I also found, bought, printed, taped a cut the pattern for the Charlie Tunic by Made by Rae to make into a wax cloth top for my littlest nephew.

For myself, I finished a new V1314 Vogue Tracy Reese dress in a super soft black rayon jersey. I've used this pattern four times now, including the tomato red dress I sewed last summer and still wear a lot. Alas, I ran out of steam when it was time to take pictures when I wore it on Sunday. So, you'll just have to wait.

I also have two knitting WIP's - more baby gifts. I have a nearly finished baby blanket and a cute little hat in the works.

And lastly, just to add to my creative frenzy, I have more new fabric.

4 of 5 new beauties!

After years of swearing that I am the least likely person to ever SWAP (Sew with a Plan) because I get distracted by the next shiny pattern or fabric that comes along, I have been mulling over a wardrobe project. Adding fuel to my fire, one of the most amazing ladies of the sewing world sent me home with even more fabric from her stash and orders to use it as an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone. I shall!

Oh look!  I did find one picture of me in my new knit dress! Too bad you can't see the dress for all the fabric. ;-)

Anyway, I am sequestering myself on Sunday for a mini sewathon!

What do you have in the works? Just one thing or many things in many stages?

for me, i am thinking i might hunker down and bang out some half-finished summer SWAP ideas - mostly shorts and cute tops and a few hems. then i can focus on the real thing: a silk cascade and a silk jersey nettie!

Can't wait to see this Future Dress and the caftan wax print dress.
I am working on multiple things; Bra and my Lola pants. I should be working on the top I drafted.

Isn't that always the way? So many projects, so little time.

I think it's trig! Oy!

True story.
I forgot to say, next time I am in NYC, we should definitely meet. :-)

Oooh, that's a great plan!

Ooooh, the caftan!! That'll be gorgeous!! I also have many things, in many stages, but I'm trying to get the leather handbag done first.

I've made a list of summer sewing plans that I'm kind of planning to stick to (I'm not much of a planner, but the result of that has been that I go through almost every season without getting around to making the things that I most wanted!). I am trying to work on one project at a time, but it's so tempting to rush ahead and start new things!

Many things in many stages. Just finished a finicky, pieced skirt, only to find that the elastic is w - a - y too long in the waist. I measured it, and subtracted four inches, and still it is too long. Pooh. I wanted to wear that thing today. On the plus side, have finally decided which pattern wants to be made from which fabric in my stash, for six proposed garments. I hate making decisions.

Definitely!

Oooh, leather. Yeah, I have sort of rearranged my fall sewing to include a leather blazer... but more on that when the weather permits...

Clio said...

That happens to me too! I've been meaning to make a black sheath dress with leather trim for about 3 winters now...

Clio said...

Wow - 6 garment decisions! That's huge!

Three things (unusual for me because I usually work one-at-a-time): wonder woman bathing suit for my kid, a sundress for me, and testing a belt project for my tween sewing students. And....no time now in which to do it all, of course!

That seems like a similar balance as I have - one for me, one for mom, and one for nephew...

My work is so getting in the way of my plans, I am taking my sewing machine on vacation!

Now five, as one of the blouse patterns calls for more fabric than I have. Unless I locate a pattern to make the blouse with the chosen fabric -- which was already one of those "I can't decide if this is beautiful or ugly but I keep coming back to it" pieces in the stash.

I've had to force myself to work on WIPs because I am in the same boat. I just finished a Negroni for James and a 50s bathing suit that I've had since 2010! I always look forward to summer sewing until I remember it involves three family members birthdays, so I end up with no sewing time for me. On top of that, I have a lot of travel this year, so there's just no time anyways.

I also have that tank top I've been knitting, but the more I look at it the more I feel like I won't wear it, yet I keep going.

Well that's a great WIP to finish!!!

I can relate to travel vs sewing - it's not just the travel itself for me, it's that I have to figure out where I left off and try to keep up the enthusiasm for a half finished project when there are gaps between working on it.

Yeah, funny how knitting is like that.
