Ladies and Gentlemen, because I feel the need to get back to normal life even though I'm still basically stuck at home, I humbly present my leather jacket, photographed pre-hurricane.
I've been wearing it non-stop in the last week.
Look! I even made an actual effort to take photographs in interesting locations...
And with me actually posing. That said, there's been a bit of noise in the blogosphere lately about whether you actually look like the photos on your blog or whether you wear your clothing styled the same way in real life. I do. With this jacket, even the inauthentic purple hair is authentically how I've already worn it. And all of these places are actually on my way to the train station in town for my daily commute.
I have to admit that the fit is a little more glove-like than intended. I probably should have left a little extra room to account for the thickness of the leather + interfacings + lining. Also, I'm still bouncing back from two rounds of steroids for my back plus the related lay off from running; I'm a little extra voluptuous at this point in time. But all-in-all, I think this is exactly the sort of jacket that looks great with a glove-like fit.
I will definitely be sewing on leather again soon. Honestly, after this project, sewing any other leather projects will be a piece of cake!

I'm really tickled with how the jacket came out. I originally debated
whether or not to make the peplum version. I'm glad that so many of you
championed it because, in the end, I think it really makes the jacket.

Wow wow WOW!!! That jacket is the bomb!!! The fit is incredible. It looks like a very luxe, expensive jacket. I'm sure you must be getting compliments left and right. What a gorgeous wardrobe staple. You have truly outdone yourself.
It looks AMAZING! The fit might feel a bit tight, but it looks fabulous in the pictures. And I love the peplum. It really does make the jacket seem extra special. I am sure you will get a ton of use out of this jacket, and it looks like it was totally worth the long process of making it.
ZOMG that is SO AWESOME!!!! hawt!!! I want one! Aiee. And I was ready to swear off all leather-like things after the annoyance of the hallowe'en shorts. Love the peplum, love the collar, love the front opening, the neckline, EVERYTHING.
Hmmm, hard to say since I was also in daily pain and on narcotics with the steroids. So there were lots of factors at work. I was definitely short of patience and unable to make decisions or focus on sewing. Phin attributed it more to the pain than the meds, but I'm not 100% sure. It was a bit like PMS - I could tell that my responses/feelings were not rational, but I couldn't overcome them.

You look amazing! The jacket is *fabulous* even better than I imagined- and I had high hopes for you! It just suits you perfectly. I like it styled with the purple wig. Who knew a purple wig could be flattering?
Thinking about your back. Have you considered swimming instead of running? I started swimming for the sake of my feet/knees. I did to improve my cardiovascular fitness which I was told was abysmal. An unexpected side-effect for me is that my upper back, neck and shoulders feel relaxed and stretched out! Without trying or thinking about it! I wonder if swimming instead of running would not just take the strain off but help build up some of those tiny hard to reach muscles which can subtly help.
OK, enough unsolicited advice. Your jacket really is stunning. A bravura performance!

Thanks Karin! I actually am thinking about swimming. I'm seeing a sports medicine dr whose specialty is backs, and his advice was that the amount of running I do is absolutely fine, but that over the long haul (50+ years lets hope) I might want to consider shifting to tri-athalons. And I am fine with that - as long as I can still set and achieve goals and have a fun and healthy hobby with Phin. So, over this winter I plan to mix in some swimming and cycling.
Ha! Actually some of my friends think I should make it permanent. The only problem is that it would not go very well with my career. So for now at least, it is for weekends and evenings out!

O! I know it was gonna be great, but WOWZA! Beautiful Beautiful HOTDAMN! And that is my favorite kind of peplum (back only) And maybe it will stretch slightly wear you most need it over time, because real leather is generous that way. Brava!

How come this lovely isn't on Burdastyle.com? I'm eyeing the pattern and if I hadn't been so dissatisfied with the meager 4 examples on b.com I wouldn't have googled the pattern and found your version! (And discover quite a few other scrumptious pictures on the way.)
