And this is love...

I never believed in love at first sight before Sunday...

But then I saw him for the first time.

Baby Boy Taco*
19 inches, 5lbs 10oz (2.55kg)

Taco was 12 days late and his unexpectedly small size caused some complications with his delivery. But he was born completely healthy and is really thriving now that we're home.

He makes the funniest faces. Sorry about the wonky camera angle...

And we're done.

The only thing we're making around here at the moment is milk. I actually finished a few unblogged projects before he was born. Not sure I'll get to posting them soon. But look for us on Instagram.

My reality: better than any fantasy

* So, we're calling this tiny boy Taco for blog purposes. Yep, there's a story.  From the day he found out a new cousin was expected, my 8yo nephew Linus was horribly offended that we were calling the baby Raspberry. Cleary, Raspberry is a "girl name," and Linus was convinced that the baby would be a boy. His rationale: there are 5 girls in my generation but no boys, and there were 4 boys in his generation but no girls. So, the boys were "owed" another boy and Linus renamed the baby Taco. It seems only fair that we continue calling him Taco in the blogosphere, since Linus was correct.

  2. They JUST fit. He has really big feet and hands for such a peanut! It's really funny - I hope he grows into them. Lol

  12. What a tiny little fellow! Sort of explains why you weren't showing very much, doesn't it?

  14. Thanks!

Sort of. But oddly every ultrasound we had -even at 41 weeks -indicated he was a normal size.

  15. I'm happy that he arrived healthy and you bonded.

  18. Many many congratulations to all of you, he is adorable. Also I think new-mum tiaras should be more common-place.

  21. Yep, now you get to know what love really is! Your baby boy is gorgeous, and has the most distinct boyish characteristics. For months sometimes you can't look at babies and automatically tell unless they are dressed in pink (with a headband), or little boy blue. But your baby looks just like a boy. He is wonderful and hope that you guys enjoy him to the MAX. He's going to bring much joy for many years to come!

  22. I've been waiting for this post!! Congrats to you all on such a wonderful early Christmas present. Re: Taco's petiteness: Is it possible that the dates were skewed (my midwives told me my due date was 2 weeks later than I knew it could be because the ultrasounding can mispredict things slightly. My kid was technically 2 weeks early but I knew she was on time...) I LOVE your pics - especially the last one. That tiara and that look!

  23. Welcome to the world, Taco!!! You are already so loved!!

  24. Thanks! At the risk of TMI, I'm pretty sure of his due date simply because I know what my work travel schedule was around the time he was conceived. Plus, his date never changed throughout pregnancy. He was tracking normal. Near the end my midwives thought he might not be growing as well, but an ultrasound seemed to show he was fine (moral: midwives trump machines).

  25. Thanks! Yes! They should issue a tiara in the hospital to every new mom! 😊

  30. Big congrats! He's such a little man. But he will grow! (My 4-1/2-pounder is now a solid near-six-foot dad.) Yup, love at first sight indeed!

  31. Congrats to you and the hubby, he is such a cutie!

  32. Supposedly those size/weight ultrasounds are super inaccurate. I was told by the doc who gave me my final baby size ultrasound that Z might be a 10-pounder but midwives didn't think so and she was 8 lbs 6 oz.

  38. Oh, such a beautiful baby! I'm so glad he is healthy. And he really, really looks like Phin ... isn't it funny how early you can tell the resemblance? Drink lots of fluids, get lots of rest, take lots of brewer's yeast for lots of milk.

  39. Welcome, baby boy Taco! He must look so cute with the herd all around him, especially given his wee size. :) And he does make some pretty great faces.

  40. Congrats! Your tiara is pretty awesome btw!!
